Privacy Notice

About this notice
OKI HOMES ("this site") lists rental properties in Okinawa and connects people looking for a home with the companies that list them. The company operating this site is not a licensed real estate broker. The brokerage is done by the company that lists each property. This notice explains what information we handle, why, and who we give it to.
What we handle
- Your name, email address, phone number, and display language - What you write in an inquiry - Properties you save - The identifier used to sign you in (your email address, or an external account)
The following are **optional**. You can send an inquiry without them, and leaving them blank changes nothing about how you are treated.
- Whether you have pets, and their size and number - The date you would like to move in - Your service (Marine Corps, Air Force, Navy, Army, DoD civilian, and so on) - Your note to the owner (an optional short intro) - The image you use as your icon
We ask about your service because it can change how the paperwork is handled. **It is not used to decide which homes you are shown.** You may leave it blank.
You do not need to enter any of this to browse properties.
Why we use it
- To pass your inquiry to the company listing that property - To verify it is you and sign you in - To show you the properties you saved - To keep a record of the consent you gave (required by law) - To answer your questions
Who we give it to
Only when you send an inquiry, we give it to the company listing that property and the owner of that property. What we give them is your name, email address, phone number, display language, and what you wrote — plus, if you filled them in, your pets (size and number), your preferred move-in date, your service, your note to the owner, and your icon image.
Your note to the owner and your icon are saved in your account and **are sent again with every inquiry you make.**
They are never shown on the site.
While you are open to offers (scouting), member listing companies can see what you're looking for, your pets (size and number), your service, and **your first name only**. Your last name and contact details go only to a company you reply to. Turn scouting off and they can no longer see it.
We give it to no one else. In particular, not to other listing companies (apart from your first name and preferences while scouting), credit bureaus, rent guarantee companies, or advertisers.
Once they have it, that company handles it under their own privacy policy.
Maps on this site
We show the location of each property and of the listing company on a Google map.
When a map is shown, your browser connects to Google directly. Google receives your IP address, your browser type, and which page you are on. This happens as soon as the page opens, whether or not you touch the map.
We never send your name, email address, phone number, or the contents of your inquiry to Google.
If you would rather not load a map, use the written address instead of the "Open in Google Maps" link below it.
Records of exact addresses
For some homes, such as those still going through base inspection or relisting, we hide the exact address and building name and show only an approximate area (a circle of about 300 m) on the map (the same Google map described under "Maps on this site").
If you request the exact address and the listing company approves, we record: - when you received and viewed the address, and for which property - the connection you viewed it from (not your IP address itself, but a code made from it for matching)
We use these records to prevent and investigate misuse of addresses. If we find use that breaks our Terms, we may provide them to the listing company and the property owner for claims for damages or other legal action.
Counting views and taps
We count how many times each listing is viewed. Listing companies use this to decide whether to add photos or revisit the rent.
To count, we store two random strings in your browser: one groups views that came from the same browser (up to 400 days), the other groups a single visit (it expires after 30 minutes of inactivity). Neither is your name or your email address.
We record the page address you viewed (the search-filter part is discarded; we keep only the utm_ tags that say which ad or link brought you), which site you came from (the site name only), your language, whether you are on a phone or a computer, and what you did on that listing (viewed the page, saw it in a list, opened a photo, or tapped the contact details).
We do not store your IP address, detailed browser information, or anything you typed into the search box. We use no outside analytics service, and these numbers are never passed to another company.
Listing companies see counts only. They never learn who viewed a listing. Even when you are signed in, we do not link your account to these records.
Ask AI and voice input
When you use Ask AI, the text you type is sent to an AI service run by Anthropic (United States) to turn it into search filters such as base, bedrooms, and rent. We send only that text — never your name, email address, or account. Under its business terms, Anthropic does not use this text to train its models.
So that the same request does not call the AI again and again, we keep the result together with the text you typed for up to 10 minutes. We do not link it to your account or to view records, and we do not log it (we log only how much AI processing was used).
If you use the microphone button, your browser's speech service (Google, in Chrome) turns your voice into text, and only the text reaches this site. While the microphone is on, we say so on screen.
Notifications on your phone
Only if you turn notifications on, we save the address your browser issues for that device and link it to your account. Notifications reach you through that address, via the delivery service of your device's maker (such as Apple or Google).
We send only short notices: when a listing company sends you homes, a message, or a reply, and when new homes match a search you saved. We never include photos or rent. We don't send them at night in Okinawa (10 p.m. to 8 a.m.) — they arrive in the morning.
You can turn notifications off at any time in your account settings. If you stop our emails, notices about offers and new matches stop too (messages about your inquiries still arrive). We stop using an address once you turn it off or your device invalidates it.
Withdrawing your consent
We take consent for each inquiry separately. You can withdraw it at any time from your account. Once you do, that company can no longer see your name or contact details.
If the company already saved a copy on their side, please contact them directly.
Where we keep it
We keep it on servers in Japan (the database and the processing both run in the Tokyo region). We do not transfer it outside Japan.
Access, correction, and deletion
You may ask us to show you, correct, or delete your information. You can change your name and phone number yourself from your account. For anything else, please contact us below.
